Explore beyond Hawk & Mesa

Historic Pioneertown, California

We are 15 minutes from Pioneertown, California, which started life in 1946 when Western movie stars Roy Rogers and Gene Autry, along with a group of investors, bought an elaborate movie set built to look like a typical Old Western town of the 1800’s. More than 50 films and several television shows were filmed in Pioneertown throughout the 1940’s and 1950’s. John Wayne and Roy Rogers still have their names on the rooms of an old hotel in town. After the film studios stopped using Pioneertown as a back lot it was turned into a real town. Learn more here.
